A Message from our Superintendent
The tragedy in life does not lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It isn’t a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideal, but it is a disaster to have no ideal to capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for. Benjamin E. Mays
Hello to All,
It has been a wonderful thirty days on the job fulfilling the requirements entrusted to me as Interim Superintendent of the Peñasco Independent School District. In the short time I have been here, I have observed and learned many things.
I have learned that our students are served by dedicated, loyal. and committed faculty, staff, and instructional support personnel who work hard to meet the needs and challenges of our students every day. I have witnessed teamwork, collaboration and deep discussions among teachers and administrators; focused on how to improve what we do to positively affect our students. I have enjoyed cafeteria food, witnessed custodians preparing classrooms and maintenance personnel working hard and steady in addressing district-wide tasks. Central office staff and site secretaries keep a fast pace to provide quick service to keep things moving. I enjoy bus duty in the early morning and look forward to the many waves I give and receive from our bus drivers. Not to mention the many “Good Morning” and “Hello’s” to and from our students. Our Educational Assistants provide high levels of support to our students. Principals are on their feet and in the classrooms providing high levels of guidance and support to ensure that schools meet their site and district goals and priorities. Fall sports teams are competing and doing well. Clubs and organizations have been formed and are meeting. Support programs such as GEAR UP and Los Brazos are in full swing. After school tutoring will begin soon.
Peñasco ISD is on the move and headed in a positive direction! With that said, changes have been made to address gaps and observed deficiencies. These changes will cause and have caused varied levels of uneasiness. However, the true intent of the changes are valuable, important, and fulfill identified priorities at site and district levels.
Effective leaders are keepers of the vision. My work is focused on identified priorities with a balance of perspective and professionalism aimed at meeting or exceeding goals and expectations. I encourage Peñasco community members to remain involved in the transformational changes as they occur in our district, as these efforts align with state requirements and identified site and district priorities.
Thank you for the warm welcome.
Yours in Education,
Darlene Ulibarri, Interim Superintendent
The Origin of the Twelve Days of Christmas
You're all familiar with the Christmas song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" I think. To most it's a delightful nonsense rhyme set to music. But it had a quite serious purpose when it was written.
